Behind every great documentary is a huge amount of work in pre-production that goes into research and finding hidden gems within archive footage and historical content. In factual storytelling, this is where much of the magic happens.

In April 2018, TVNZ and Getty Images announced an exclusive global distribution partnership for Getty Images to license and distribute TVNZ's video content all around the world. Documentary filmmakers can now access the TVNZ Collection through Getty Images’ website from anywhere 24 hours a day.

At this Doc Edge special presentation, participants will discover what makes a successful documentary film, how to secure archive video content for your project and how to access the TVNZ Collection.

The event will be headed by Cate Slater, Director of Content at TVNZ and she will be joined by her TVNZ colleagues Tony Manson, Head of Unscripted and Vicky Keogh, Factual Commissioner. The panel will also include Arran Birchenough, Sales Director, Getty Images New Zealand and the discussion will be facilitated by Alex Lee, Doc Edge Festival Director.

Topics will include:
- Successful criteria and priorities for TVNZ commissioned documentaries
- Recent project examples
- Audience insights for documentary content development
- Content highlights of available TVNZ Collection content and other documentary libraries
- Details about exclusive access to TVNZ Collection and free services for Doc Edge projects

In recognition of Getty Images and Doc Edge's partnership, Getty Images will give Doc Edge-supported filmmakers access to the TVNZ Collection as well as free research services, access to broadcast quality films for pre-screening/post production/rough cuts, and discounted license fees.

The event is free but registration is required.
